Meet Our Team

Rev. Dr. Jason Cook is the dedicated pastor of The Refuge in Conway, South Carolina, where he has faithfully served for the past 14 years. Under his leadership, the church has become a place of refuge, restoration, and spiritual growth for the local community.
Dr. Cook recently earned his doctoral degree in Church Revitalization from Liberty University, reflecting his deep commitment to helping churches thrive with renewed purpose and vision. His passion for discipleship and community outreach continues to shape the mission of The Refuge.
He is married to Chloe, and together they are the proud parents of Alice. Dr. Cook’s love for his family is central to his ministry, influencing his approach to leadership, teaching, and shepherding others with compassion and authenticity.
With a heart for transformation and a vision for the future, Dr. Cook remains committed to equipping believers and strengthening the local church for years to come.

Pastors Staff Ministry Leaders

Rev. Danielle serves as the church administrative assistant. She also serves in the children's ministry at times and has served in youth ministry as well. Rev. Danielle is a local licensed minister with the IPHC. Danielle and her husband Chase have been together for 7 years and have been married since March 15, 2019. Chase serves in the sound booth, working on the online livestream services and serves on the security team, as well as the usher team. They have lived in Horry County for 6 years, they have two girls & 3 dogs. Rev. Dr. Brandon & Danielle Hutson

Worship Pastor

Pastor Brandon and Danielle Hutson have the honor of leading our church in worship. We have a phenomenal team of singers, musicians, media, and sound techs. We could not do what we do without our team. Pastor Brandon and Danielle have been married since May 24, 2003, and they have two children, Olivia and Myles. They have served as Lead Pastors, Associate Pastors, and Worship Pastors. Their desire is to serve the church in whatever capacity the Lord chooses to use them. They are thankful to be on staff and we are thankful to have them leading the congregation of The Refuge in worship!

Pastor Debbie has been the Children's Pastor at The Refuge for 8 years. Mrs. Debbie is married to Mr. David who also works alongside her to help in any way he can. Mrs. Debbie ensures that each child is taught the love of God, & how to show that love to others. She oversees Refuge Nursery (0-3), Wee Church (4-7) & RefugeKidZ (9-12). You can always find Mr. David at RefugeKidZ Check-In or behind the grill at one of our many Refuge events! They strive to make sure each child not only feels loved but knows that they are!

Pastor Shane and his wife Latoya have 7 children (5 boys, 2 girls) and 5 grandchildren. Pastor Shane was born and raised in Brevard, NC. He has served as Lead Pastor in Tryon, NC and Charlotte, NC. Pastor Shane serves as our Outreach Pastor. He also assisted in the opening of The Hope Center - a Christ centered addiction recovery program. He is an ordained minister with the IPHC. Pastor Shane has a heart to see the broken made whole; to see the addicted find freedom, and to see their hearts healed through Christ love. His wife Latoya was born and raised in Huntington, WV. She is the founder and director of Lighthouse of Destiny which assists mothers with supplies for their newborns and children. Lighthouse of Destiny is partnered with The Refuge and participates in various events throughout the year to raise awareness for alternatives to abortion and resources to help provide items for mothers. Latoya serves in many other areas of ministry at The Refuge including the Encounter Team and Women's Ministry.

Chris & Nicole Mew lead our Next Steps Team and our Encounter Team here at The Refuge. They hope to make everyone who enters feel at home and welcome. Chris & Nicole have been happily married for 23 years and are proud grandparents of one! They have served in many ministry roles in their many years together and look forward to many more as God sees fit.
